The Winter at The Wilds Tours take guests behind the scenes to view animals in their winter housing and exercise yards where you will also learn about special winter enrichment activities to keep the animals engaged. Get a truly unique perspective when you take the Winter at The Wilds Tour for up-close interactions with the animals in our care. Guests of the Wildside Tour will be transported safari style on a padded bench in the back of a specially-designated Animal Management pick-up truck. For the safety of our guests, close-toe shoes are required. We recommend comfortable footwear and casual clothing (dress for the weather) as there will be some walking involved. May - October: Offered multiple times daily Wildside Tours are presented by AEP Ohio. Before or after your Wildside Safari, enjoy a visit to The Wilds’ Gift Market and Overlook Café or stroll through The Wilds’ Butterfly Habitat. Tours are approximately 2+ hours long and include plenty of time in pasture to see rare and endangered animals in their open-range habitats and learn directly about our programs from your Animal Management guide. Each experience will vary depending on what program work may be happening each day. You might drive right up to a herd of rhinos or close enough to feed a giraffe. Small tour groups can see The Wilds from the back of one of our specially modified four-wheel drive trucks with the ability to go off the regular tour roads to get closer to the action. The tours are led by a member of our Animal Management staff, so you will get the inside track on what is happening with our animals. This exclusive tour gives you the opportunity to get up close and personal with the programs at The Wilds. Open-Air Safaris take place rain or shine please dress appropriately. Discount valid only for military member and current military ID must be presented at time of check-in. To book an Open-Air Safari using a military discount, please call (740) 638-5030.
